WAVETREND ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH NL TECHNOLOGIES

SURREY, U.K., May 1, 2007 – Wavetrend, a world leader in the deployment of active RFID solutions, today announced the signing of a new, strategic partnership agreement with NL Technologies (NLT), a Canadian-owned designer and manufacturer of underground lighting and digital communications solutions for the mining industry.

Driven by globalization, public scrutiny of accident statistics and government-regulated safety legislation, adoption of RFID technology in the mining industry has the capability to dramatically improve the safety of industry personnel and equipment while at the same time delivering a strong return-on-investment.

“NLT couldn’t have chosen a better partner than Wavetrend for extending its environmental safety, broadband network and wireless communications portfolio, said Daniel Rose, NLT Chief Operating Officer. “The mining industry has been traditionally slow to adopt new technologies. Its harsh environments often make the deployment of technologies used by other industries problematic.”

In coal mines, special circuit design for low power and safety circuitry for intrinsic safety is a challenge and usually requires circuit redesign. NLT has conducted a number of on-site tests using RFID technology and through its custom design capabilities, has determined that the technology is ripe for adoption by the mining industry.

“After evaluating a number of RFID products, we concluded that Wavetrend’s RFID solution allows for greater tracking precision and efficiency when compared to other competitor products, Rose continued. “This means that our customers can customize coverage area to meet their specific needs. The Wavetrend team was also very responsive to our redesign requirements, agreeing to work together with our Engineering group to secure certification of Intrinsic Safety (IS) on its products.”

This new agreement provides NL Technologies access to Wavetrend’s complete portfolio of active RFID products and services including the company’s access control, personnel tracking and asset management solutions.

“NL Technologies have proven their ability to deliver leading edge solutions in harsh mining and petrochemical personnel and asset tracking applications over the last 20 years”, said Saleem Miyan, Wavetrend’s VP Worldwide Sales, Marketing & Professional Services. “Combining their market leadership and Wavetrend’s 10 year history in the deployment of world leading active RFID solutions is a great match for the applications requiring certified intrinsically safe products.“

The companies are now working together on several new products and other key developments specifically for the mining industry.
